Arden Beddoes*

Biography

Arden’s commercial litigation practice is bolstered by his strong financial and business acumen. Before law school, Arden began his professional career as an investment banker in New York, giving him a deep understanding of corporate finance. After law school, he clerked for judges on the Commercial List at the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Toronto, and then practiced for many years at leading commercial and administrative law litigation firms in Toronto and Vancouver, before establishing Beddoes Litigation.

He has acted as lead counsel in a range of significant matters, including Greengen Holdings Ltd. v. British Columbia, which resulted in a landmark judgment, generated widespread commentary, and shaped precedent in the area of government liability. Arden also maintains an active public law practice. He has acted for and against government entities, represented clients before a number of administrative tribunals, and has acted for applicants and interveners in cases concerning the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

As an active participant in the legal profession, Arden has presented on a range of issues at law schools and continuing legal education seminars. His commentary has also appeared in a variety of legal and mainstream publications.

Arden is recognized by The Best Lawyers in Canada in its 2024 and 2025 editions as a leading lawyer for corporate and commercial litigation. In 2024, he was recognized as an Emerging Talent Litigator of the Year at the Benchmark Litigation Canada Awards. He has been repeatedly recognized by Benchmark Litigation Canada as a “Future Star” and appeared in the same publication’s “40 & Under Hot List” in 2021 through 2023. Arden was also listed in the Lexpert 2022 Special Edition for Litigation, and has been recognized by Lexpert as a “leading lawyer to watch” for commercial litigation.

Before merging with McEwan Partners, Arden founded and led Beddoes Litigation, which developed a strong reputation in commercial and administrative law, and was recognized by Best Lawyers as a top firm for corporate and commercial litigation.
