Biography
Justice Newbury was appointed to the Supreme Court of British Columbia in 1991, and appointed to the Court of Appeal in 1995.
She was called to the bar in 1976, after obtaining her LL.B. at UBC Law School (where she was senior editor of the UBC Law Review), and her LL.M. at Harvard.
She practised until 1986 at (then) Ladner Downs where she was the first female associate and partner, and then from 1986 at Mawhinney and Kellough (which merged with Fraser and Beatty in 1990).
She was a member of the Law Reform Commission of British Columbia for several years, and in 2002 she was recognized by the American Bar Association, Business Law Section, for her contributions in advancing women in the legal profession.
