Investigations
There is no one model or blueprint for conducting an investigation.
The circumstances that create the need for an investigation are unique and challenging. Our lawyers have conducted investigations in important and discrete matters for clients in many different situations. These include acting for regulators in diverse matters, including the securities and environmental fields, and for corporations, and their independent committees, concerning employee misconduct or other malfeasance.
Our lawyers understand the need to anticipate the direction that an investigation will follow and get in front of where it will go. We establish tight controls and clear lines of communication. A thorough and credible investigation can be the best preparation for any potential regulatory action and is often the best means of preparing for or heading off litigation.
We have investigated workplace fatalities in the forest industry, film industry, and at factories. These investigations can be precursors to regulatory, civil or criminal actions. In addition to acting for regulators, our litigators have conducted investigations for corporations in securities matters related to tipping, insider trading, market manipulation and fraud. Allegations of workplace and sexual harassment have been given to our lawyers to navigate.
