Biography

Alyshia Lan-Phavongkham is an articled student with our firm.

Alyshia received her J.D. from the University of Victoria in 2025. She completed her final year in the Netherlands, where she studied in the Faculty of Law at Utrecht University. Here, she studied international law and security, cyber crime law, and organized crime law.

During her J.D., Alyshia volunteered with Pro Bono Students Canada where she helped inform seniors about competing end-of-life decision-making mechanisms in British Columbia and their legal effects. Alyshia also volunteered as an editor for The APPEAL Law Journal.

Alyshia completed two co-op placements during her J.D. Her first co-op placement was with the Department of Justice, where she drafted materials for immigration judicial review matters. Her second placement was with the Ministry of Attorney General, where she oversaw numerous Small Claims and Civil Forfeiture files. During her
placement with the Attorney General, Alyshia also had the opportunity to present some of these matters in court.

Alyshia holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Philosophy with Distinction. She received her degree from the University of Victoria in 2019. During her undergraduate, Alyshia also studied Japanese. In 2017, she completed an international language exchange program in Kobe, Japan and was the program’s valedictorian.

Prior to joining McEwan Partners, Alyshia articled at a civil litigation firm, during which she appeared before the British Columbia Provincial Court and the Supreme Court of British Columbia for hearings and trials.

In addition to English, Alyshia speaks French (B1 – previous French immersion student) and Japanese (A1).
