McEwan Partners is delighted to announce that, effective May 1, 2026, we will merge with Sean Hern Law Corp. We are proud to welcome Sean Hern, K.C. to the firm as a partner and Merran Hergert as an associate.
Frequently recognized as a leading practitioner in commercial, administrative, and constitutional law, Sean is a seasoned and highly respected litigator with over two decades of experience. His practice encompasses lengthy and complex civil trials involving contracts and commercial matters, public inquiries, sensitive internal investigations, and class actions. He also maintains a significant pro bono practice engaging critical public interest issues.
Sean appears regularly before all levels of court in British Columbia, as well as various administrative tribunals and arbitrators. His expertise further includes professional negligence, privacy violations, trusts, and municipal claims, and he frequently acts for public bodies and litigants in a wide range of regulatory, disciplinary, and other administrative matters.
Awarded the King’s Counsel designation in 2019, Sean is widely recognized for his contributions to the legal profession. He is an honorary lifetime member of the B.C. Freedom of Information and Privacy Association and was a recipient of the 2022 Charles Bury Award from the Canadian Association of Journalists, representing lawyers defending press freedom and journalists’ rights.
Joining the firm as an associate, Merran Hergert brings a distinguished background in intergovernmental relations with the Government of Alberta and previously served as a law clerk for five justices of the British Columbia Supreme Court. Her practice focuses on public and constitutional law.
The addition of Sean and Merran further strengthens McEwan Partners’ capacity to provide exceptional advocacy in the most challenging, high-stakes litigation. We look forward to the expertise and leadership they will bring to our firm and our clients.
