Animal Justice et al v. A.G. of Ontario, 2024 ONSC 1753

Arden Beddoes acted for two of the applicants in successfully striking key provisions of the Security from Trespass and Protecting Food Safety Act, 2020, which operated to effectively stop all undercover investigations into factory farms in Ontario. The Court struck the key provisions for violating the right to free expression under section 2(b) of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which the Court determined could not be saved under section 1 of the Charter.

The successful applicants were Animal Justice, and two individuals. Arden Beddoes represented the two individuals, while Animal Justice was represented by lawyers from Stockwoods LLP. The Court’s decision can be found here.
