Biography

Aneka Jiwaji is a pragmatic and passionate litigator. Her experience handling complex commercial and regulatory disputes includes shareholder, contractual and securities regulatory enforcement matters. She also has extensive experience in representing insurers and insureds in complex coverage and defence disputes, including director and officer liability, errors and omissions liability and products liability matters.

Aneka has made submissions at all levels of court in British Columbia. Having previously worked as Litigation Counsel for the British Columbia Securities Commission, she has significant expertise and experience in securities regulatory enforcement matters and holds a Masters of Law (LLM) specialising in Securities Law from Osgoode Hall Law School. Prior to her role as Litigation Counsel at the regulator, she worked as a commercial litigation associate at a leading international law firm and a full-service regional firm. Aneka holds a Juris Doctor from Thompson Rivers University Faculty of Law where she was on the Dean’s List. She also holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the Sauder School of Business at University of British Columbia.

Aneka is passionate about improving the legal profession. In addition to being an active content writer on LinkedIn and for industry publications, she has been included on the “long list” of Canadian Lawyers Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers 2023 and 2024 in the “changemakers” category. In 2024, Aneka was nominated through letters of recommendation by fellow Canadian Bar Association Members for the Canadian Bar Association BC Diversity and Equality Award. Aneka is an active member of the Advocates’ Society and has presented as a panelist at the 14th Annual Securities Symposium on the topic of “Practice Before the Tribunal”.
